City Councilwoman April Legere

April has resided in Northwest Arkansas since December 2012, when she joined the Fortune 1 through a veteran’s hiring initiative. She held various corporate roles in the human resources space in retail and tech until transitioning to a private equity company focused on retail hospitality in 2022. April is known for building communities and enriching lives. Professionally, she builds organizations that align to the vision of making opportunity accessible to all by helping companies understand the value of diversity at every level of engagement. 

Prior to her corporate career, April served in the United States Air Force as a Captain with eight years of military service as a Personnel Officer. The highlight of her service was the opportunity to deploy supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008. It was during this time that she recognized the desire to serve humanity and create an environment that welcomed an understanding of culture.

April’s passion for serving others resulted in her being elected as the first person of color to the Rogers, AR City Council. She took office in January of 2021. She was also elected as a State Committee Member for Benton County to the Democratic Party of Arkansas in 2020, representing the perspectives of the county members at the state level. The notion of community, culture and growth; to cultivate space for everyone to feel welcome, is what drives her in public service. As the chair of the Community, Environment and Welfare Committee with accountability for planning, housing, health, animal control, inspection and code enforcement, she is able to weave that foundation into all that she does.

Understanding the importance of continuous education, April is a graduate of Emerge, a program focused on developing progressive women to lead in politics, as well as Vote, Run Lead, a bi-partisan, female focused organization that trains women to run for political office based on the belief that more women in government creates a stronger democracy. She also trained with The New Politics Leadership Academy, a bipartisan leadership development program designed for public servants.

April earned a B.S. in Social Psychology from Park University. While active duty, she completed a M.A. in Management from Webster University. She holds a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from the University of South Florida as well as a professional certification in Veterans in the Workplace through the Society of Human Resources Management.
